BioDFW Names Keith Brown Executive Director
November 25, 2009 - Dallas/Fort Worth — Keith W. Brown of Dallas, Texas has been named Executive Director of BioDFW, A Life Sciences Regional Alliance. Brown, a long-timed life sciences entrepreneur retired in March 2009 as President and CEO of TissueGen, Inc, a Dallas area medical device company.

“We believe that Keith Brown has the proven ability to continue BioDFW’s mission in new and exciting ways”, said Doug Rasor, BioDFW Board chair. “Importantly Keith brings industry experience, which, coupled with his unique combination of professional and personal strengths makes him extremely well-qualified to promote the DFW region’s biomedical industry initiatives.” Rasor said.

Before joining TissueGen, Keith had 15 years experience with venture-backed biotechnology companies, preceded by 10 years in the medical diagnostics industry. He was the founding President/CEO of GeneScreen, building it into a $15 million, multi-location laboratory testing company in the field of DNA analysis. Keith’s experience includes leading six rounds of venture financing with GeneScreen and assisting in Orchid’s IPO, four acquisitions, and two divestitures.  

Keith’s career began with Corning Medical and then Ciba Corning Diagnostics with 10 years in various management positions in information services, manufacturing and business management.  
“I have always believed in the concept of a regional effort in this industry and I’m enthused and energized by the chance to make an impact on a major contribution to the organization’s future direction and activities.” Brown stated. “A significant trend in “next generation” healthcare is to connect smarter, more capable medical devices in the home with healthcare providers and physicians via wireless and broadband communications and standardized electronic patient records. The Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex has tremendous leadership potential with the presence of Technology leaders in IT and Semiconductors, Medical Devices, Healthcare services, Networking and Communications, as well as leading world-class research universities. BioDFW can act as a catalyst to bring these assets together to foster innovations that will lower healthcare costs and improve patient outcomes.”

Brown obtained his Master of Business Administration degree with distinction form Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration and received a Bachelor of Science from the University of Manitoba.
